Barry Barker awarded the Life Membership of the CTIA of Queensland

< Date: 12 June 2013

Barry Barker has served on the committee of the Caravan Trade & Industries Association of Queensland for over 23 years.

During that period he has held the positions of Treasurer, Vice President, was President from 1996 to 2001 and is now Immediate Past President. As such he has been on the Association’s executive and show committee for some 20 years. Additionally he has also  served as the Association’s delegate to the CRVA for 4 years and presently holds the position of Deputy Chairman of that body.

Barry’s late father, Gordon, was one of the founders of our association, its second only President from 1965 to 1966 and was awarded Life Membership in 1990. In being awarded this Life Membership tonight Barry therefore becomes our first ever ‘second generation’ Life Member.

Barry has assisted on innumerable occasions in providing technical advice on behalf of the industry and has represented us on dozens of committees and liaison groups with government and the like.  On behalf of our industry, at enormous personal expense in terms of time and lost income, Barry for the past 5 years or so has assisted the State Government Department of Communities in travelling to many areas of Queensland to assess damaged caravans following natural disasters such as cyclones and floods.

This year once again Barry has been assisting in this way travelling far and wide for days on end without a break, his efforts covering the incompetence of government personnel with them still taking the accolades for assisting the displaced caravan residents.

Barry’s contribution to our industry has been, and continues to be, boundless and there is no more worthy person to receive Life Membership of the CTIA of Queensland.
