Preparing to proudly display the rainbow flag
Caravan Industry Association of Australia, in conjunction with Caravan and Camping Industry Association of New South Wales and Apollo Motorhomes are preparing to proudly display a float with Australia’s Gay Nomads at the Sydney Mardi Gras this weekend.
2018 will mark the second time we have been involved in the celebrations.
Lynne Hocking, representative of Australia’s Gay Nomads, said the support meant a lot to the group.
“Last year was absolutely sensational; to be in the parade and be one of the floats featured on SBS was really special.
“This year we will have about 20 marchers carrying tents and the motorhome behind us, and we are very much looking forward to it- one of our marchers said it has been on her bucket list for 40 years.
“To be associated with the caravan industry really means the world to us.
“I get asked about the Rainbow Accreditation too which I think is great; it puts a hand up and says ‘you will be safe in our park’ and it shows there is a whole business approach to this niche market.”
This year will mark the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Mardi Gras celebrations.
Caravan Industry Association of Australia CEO Stuart Lamont said the high yielding niche market was an important one to be working with.
“This demographic is an area of opportunity for the caravanning and camping industry and generally enjoys spending time on outdoor leisure activities,” he said.
“The caravanning and camping industry is a very open community and suitable for everybody.
“We are very pleased to support the gay leisure travel market.”
