What is the ‘circular economy’ and how can it positively impact the caravan industry?

Logically, we understand in principle that using less creates less impact, although when you are trying to create a quality guest experience in a fast-paced environment it is sometimes easy to lose track of wastage.  The good news is that there are more and more companies now available to help you out!

There has been increased attention recently on the ‘circular economy’ which at its core is an approach aimed at eliminating waste and encouraging ongoing use of resources, products or materials rather than disposing of them completely.

This approach contrasts that which many of us may subconsciously be doing whereby the products we buy have a finite lifetime before they are disposed of.  It can be easy to get caught up in the materialistic nature of product lifecycles, particularly with products that have a short lifespan to encourage repeat purchasing or upgrades or to cut costs to make the product cheaper.

By being more mindful about our purchases, seeking quality products that are durable and seeking options that are conducive to repairs or being reused, not only are you able to use products in a more sustainable manner, but it can save money in the long run too!

There are also increasingly options available for products to be leased, meaning that when you are finished using that product you are able to arrange for it to easily be reused or recycled.

Urban Furniture & Fountains are one example of a company facilitating this principle for products within caravan parks.  They too are passionate about being purposeful about purchases and encourage waste reduction through the way they design and distribute their products.  They have prepared the below white paper talking about the circular economy within the context of landscape design and have some great ideas about how you might be able to integrate these principles into the setting of your caravan park.
