Keirman French and his wife Karen picked up the keys to their new Avida Motorhome at the Gold Coast this week

Keirman French and his wife Karen were in the process of planning a caravan purchase when a timely win took them by surprise.

In July Caravan Industry Association of Australia partnered with Avida Motorhomes and Caravans, Ingenia Holidays, Dometic and NewsCorp to launch the Win a Weekender promotion. Readers were offered the opportunity to win one of two major prizes, an Avida Leura Motorhome valued at $122,300 or an Avida Rock Caravan valued at $88,490 along with Ingenia Holiday Vouchers and Dometic Camping Packs.

The competition ran for 14 days, and Keirman entered 14 times.

He then received a once-in-a-lifetime phone call informing him he was the lucky winner of the Avida Leura Motorhome.

“If you don’t enter, you can’t win!”, he said.

“On the day it was drawn, they called us that night… we were very excited.”

“We’re both retired, so it came at a perfect time for us to do a bit of travelling.”

While Keirman and Karen have never owned a motorhome or caravan before, the couple had been planning to purchase one as they had both recently retired.

Keirman said they had been browsing at different options, weighing up pros and cons, and trying to decide what model to purchase.

“The decision was taken out of our hands! It made it nice and easy,” he said.

“We’ve done camping trips just with tents, but this will allow us to travel more and go further. It’s a bit more comfortable too, having an upmarket motorhome with a full ensuite.”

“We’re going to do a short trip north to the Sunshine Coast to get the hang of it, then up to North Queensland and maybe the Northern Territory, then when it gets a bit wet up there we’ll go down to Tasmania, the Great Ocean Road and the Barossa.”

“We are very excited and looking forward to the next chapter in our lives. We’d like to thank Avida, Caravan Industry Association of Australia and The Daily Telegraph (NewsCorp) for this prize.”
