Access industry standards ISO 3779 and ISO 3780 on i2i Platform

What is ISO 3779? 

ISO 3779 is an international standard that specifies the requirements for Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs).  It establishes the structure and format of VINs to ensure they are unique and can be used for identifying vehicles in various databases globally.  ISO 3779 outlines how the VIN should be constructed, including information about the manufacturer, vehicle type, and specific vehicle details, ensuring that the VIN can be used consistently across borders and databases for tracking, registration, and insurance purposes. 

What is ISO 3780? 

ISO 3780, closely related to ISO 3779, specifies the requirements for the representation of a vehicle’s VIN in alphanumeric characters.  It provides more in-depth guidance on how to encode the vehicle’s details in a consistent format, ensuring the VIN is legible and clear.  The standard lays out the rules for the character positions in the VIN, which are vital for distinguishing various vehicle characteristics such as the model, engine type, and country of origin. 

In summary, both ISO 3779 and ISO 3780 contribute significantly to the recreational vehicle industry by providing clear guidelines for vehicle identification, ensuring consistency and promoting global standardisation.
