In June, Caravan Industry Association of Australia partnered with Jayco, Dometic, Top Parks and NewsCorp to launch the ‘Win a Weekender’ competition.
Readers and digital subscribers of all 22 NewsCorp mastheads around the country were offered the opportunity to win one of three Jayco recreational vehicles, plus daily prize packs from Dometic and Top Parks.
The media value was calculated at over $3 million, significantly higher than the initial $1.9 million estimate.
Winners have now been officially announced, and Bernard Hudson was thrilled to find out he would be the proud owner of a brand new Jayco Camper Trailer.
He describes it as the best prize he has ever won.
Last Tuesday, he headed to Jayco’s Sydney headquarters to pick up the camper trailer and undergo an induction in preparation for their first trip.
“My wife received the telephone call first and I didn’t even think about the competition at that stage- I was over the moon actually,” he said.
“We do a bit of camping, and I’m getting a bit old in the backbone to be sleeping on the ground now!”
While Bernard is a lifelong camping enthusiast and often takes trips with his family or friends, his wife has previously been hesitant to join in and has only been camping twice in her life.
Bernard is hoping the upgrade of the camper trailer will motivate her to join him on more regular trips away, both as a couple and with their two sons.
“(Camping) is a lot of fun, I usually go somewhere we can go fishing as well,” he said.
“I’m hoping the induction will encourage my wife to re-think that camping is pretty good for you! It’s always been the boys and myself and it would be great to have my wife with them.”
